About

Demographic Facts contains a collection of charts, a brief description on data sources and embedded interactive Datawrapper charts.

All charts can be shared, embedded and re-used by individuals, media organisations, journalists, political parties and any other entities. Credit is appreciated, but not required. Note that charts may be updated or deleted without warning.

Each Datawrapper chart should have the following:

  • Source: This will link directly to the source of the data. For some charts where multiple data sources are used, this will be listed in the notes section, an example image is shown below.

  • Get the data: This allows you to download the data for the chart in CSV format, if you wish to recreate one of these charts.

  • Embed: This allows you to embed the Datawrapper chart directly in your website, Substack, blog etc…

  • Download image: This will download an image of the chart, the default resolution is 600x364, which is low resolution and it may clip text and labels for certain charts.

For some charts, multiple sources are used, and as Datawrapper currently only allows you to link one source, this is either left blank or the most recent source is used.

Further details on the source is provided at the bottom of each chart.

In the example below, I have a chart showing the levels of net-migration in and out of the United Kingdom, from 1855 to 2024. Three separate sources are used, one from the Bank of England, covering 1855 to 1963, then two from the Office for National Statistics, one covering 1964 to 2011 and the other covering 2012 to 2024.

The name of each document is shown, followed by the table where the information was found.
